Main Navigation

We’ve observed that the main navigation web part currently does not support hyperlinking parent headings—only child items. Our site collection includes multiple individual sites, so enabling parent heading links would significantly improve navigation to each site’s homepage.

As a workaround, we’ve added homepage links as child items. However, this may lead to user frustration, as users often expect clickable parent links based on standard Microsoft navigation behaviour in other SharePoint sites.

Consideration of updating this web part to support parent heading hyperlinks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion! We’d love to make parent items clickable, but the challenge is on mobile and tablets. Since there’s no “hover” on mobile and tablets, tapping a parent link would open that page right away, and users wouldn’t be able to expand and reach the child links.

That’s why parent items are set up just as containers by design. We know it’s not perfect, but it keeps navigation consistent across all devices.

Appreciate you sharing the feedback — we’ll keep it in mind as we explore improvements.

Thank you for the clarification regarding mobile & tablet optimization - much appreciated.

You’re welcome and please keep those great ideas coming!
