News Center Web part
What is current web part behavior (or look) that doesn’t work for you? This only pulls in News post Promoted State = 2
What would you like the web part behavior (or look) to be?

Would like to target either a metadata column added to the Site Pages or a Managed Property.
What is the scenario for which you need the suggested new look/behavior?

Because Microsoft posts News articles to MS Teams using a complicated algorithm for users to be notified, our Marketing does not want News to post into MS Teams. We are creating Articles and assigning a custom metadata value. We want the news category to model after the choice value for the new column and then only pull in those articles assigned.

I was formerly a consultant and know of others in the community who did not want Microsoft’s default behavior. Highlighted Content Web Part ootb is our temporary workaround but is lacking in the visual.

Thank you for sharing your request. Let me confirm, we understand correctly.
It sounds like you’d like to pull pages into specific category by metadata tag.

This should already be possible in the News Center web part if you create a SharePoint view inside Site Pages and set that view to filter by specific metadata tag.
