Origami Calendar doesn't support Security Groups

Web Part Name: Origami Calendar

Current Web Part Behavior (or look) that doesn’t work:
The Origami Calendar web part does not display events that are audience-targeted to Security Groups. It currently only renders events targeted to Microsoft 365 (M365) Groups, so any events for Security Groups are missing.

Desired Web Part Behavior (or look):
The Origami Calendar should support audience-targeting for Security Groups in addition to M365 Groups, matching the behavior of the default SharePoint Calendar web part. This would ensure that all audience-targeted events appear correctly in the calendar.

Scenario for the suggested enhancement:
Our website is launching soon, and the required Security Groups are already created and actively used across multiple applications. We cannot create new M365 Groups or modify existing infrastructure entities. Without this enhancement, audience-targeted events for Security Groups do not appear in the Origami Calendar, resulting in incomplete event visibility for end users. Supporting Security Groups would:

  1. Align the Origami Calendar with SharePoint’s default calendar behaviour.

  2. Avoid the need to change existing group infrastructure.

  3. Ensure proper visibility of all events for intended audiences.

Thank you for your suggestion, we will post an update here when this is ready.

The Origami Calendar already supports audience targeting to Entra ID (cloud) Security Groups, in addition to Microsoft 365 groups.

The limitation applies to on-prem AD Security Groups synced to Entra ID. Support for this scenario requires additional handling, and we’re already working privately with this customer to address it.

We’ll share an update if and when this enhancement becomes generally available.
